BRAX is a 2D puzzle platformer with a unique take on death. Unlike most games which reset when the player dies, BRAX gives the player the assistance of their past lives in the form of ghosts. Ghosts mimic the actions of the player's previous attempts at the level. I was the Lead Designer of this game.
In BRAX, the objective for each level is to reach the exit portal. Each level has it's own obstacles and challenges that the player must overcome. The ghost mechanic is introduced early on and levels push the player to experiment with ghosts in different ways in order to beat levels that would otherwise be impossible.
BRAX features a minimalist art style that's easy on the eyes and visual effects that only accentuate it.
All of the sounds in BRAX are custom made using tools like Audacity and Figure. The background music changes based on the section of levels you are currently on. The sound effects are reminiscent of an old-school platformer.
This is definitely one of my favorite games that I had a part in creating. Although the game is short, the majority of people that have played BRAX have liked it and asked for more.
I am very grateful to my teammate, Zach Kohlberg, who was a pleasure to work with. He was responsible for implementing mechanics I designed, creating the visual look, and designing and testing levels we created. He helped me bring a dream into reality and I hope we work together on another project some day.
